21 Prince Charming
View this post on Instagram

"Anyone could see that the prince was charming, the only one for me." –Snow White ❄️ 👑 I give to you, my Prince Charm-ing! Get it? Prince CHARM-ing.... {I see that head nod.} #TheLankersLovePuns 👪 The first time I ever met Mark Lanker, he charmed me. Want to hear the story? Oh good, 'cause I'm going to share it. 💁‍♀️ "It was January of 2002, the start of my second semester at Wheaton College. I sat down at the oval table in Dr. Martindale’s Romantic Literature class (you can see where this is going), and my eyes immediately latched onto a senior sitting a few seats away from me. 👀 Not only were guys a minority in most English classes, but this particular guy didn’t seem to fit the “English major” mold. I think he was wearing a worn, blue t-shirt over a thermal and a bandana wrapped around his head. He looked like he had just come back from a camping trip. Classic Mark Lanker style. ⛺️ For an ice-breaker activity, we went around the table and shared a fun fact about ourselves. I forget what I shared, but what I don’t forget is what Mark shared. And I remember it so vividly because at the time it struck me as so foreign and so different from me. 🙅‍♀️ Mark shared about his love of maps. (Yes, maps.) How he studies them in his free time—collects them—and might have been a cartographer if he wasn’t pursuing medicine. 🗺 The phrase “opposites attract” could be applied to this scenario because I was both perplexed by someone having such an interest and also very much intrigued! You see, I had hated geography in school, mostly because it was a subject area I always struggled in. Most of what I had learned about our country’s geography I learned from the TV show, Carmen Sandiego. And it wasn’t much, I’m afraid. 📺 Seven years later, Map-Man eventually became My Map-Man. And his love of maps has grown to become my love of maps. (Isn’t it funny how love can do that to a person? Coax you into pools of water in which you previously never dared to swim.) 🏊🏻‍♀️ Mark has taught me to see maps not as quiz material, but instead, as potential adventure—bodies of water to explore and trails to bike." 🚲 - {Cont. in the comments.} 👇 #TheLankersLoveDisney 🏰
