Dressing up for Halloween can be a little tedious when you have no idea what to dress up as. If your partner is also struggling to find a Halloween costume, why not try a couples costume?

If you decide to give a couples costume a shot, know that you'll have plenty of options to choose — and none of them are boring. You could either pay homage to some of the greatest love stories, like Lucy and Ricky from I Love Lucy, or try a funny costume, like the two pieces of an Oreo cookie or PB & J. The possibilities are endless.

And before you worry about cost, don't. A Halloween couples costume doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, you could DIY it. It can be as easy as buying a long, black wig, putting on a black dress, and calling yourself Morticia Addams; while your partner dresses up in a black suit and tie to embody Gomez.

Here are our favorite couples costumes that will take your “best couple” status to the next level.

Pencil and Paper

Fabric markers transform a white shirt into loose-leaf paper, while a pencil tip hat and folded collar sharpen a red dress.

Pencil: Print and cut out templates. Trace collar template onto cream paper 5 times and cut out with scissors. Trace small hat template onto black paper and large hat template onto cream paper; cut out. Hot-glue cream paper around a cone-shaped party hat, then glue the black paper around tip. Accordion-fold collar pieces, then glue together to form full pleated collar (leave open in back). Thread sewing needle with a 4' length of dental floss. Starting at one end of collar, stitch through inner edge, leaving some extra floss at ends. (To wear, tie floss in a bow at back of neck.)

Looseleaf: Wash and iron a white T-shirt. Draw horizontal lines about 1." apart on front with blue fabric marker, using ruler or yardstick as guide. Draw vertical line at left with red fabric marker. Use gray fabric marker to draw 3 circles to left of red line.

Lightning Storm

Sparks will fly when this storm cloud runs into a wired tie, tattered dress shirt, and umbrella.

Storm Cloud: With a hot-glue gun, attach polyester stuffing to a white baseball cap to form a cloud. (Layer and glue stuffing in small sections to ensure it is attached securely.) Hot-glue silver streamers under hat brim. Wear hat sideways. Trace sunglasses and earrings lightning bolt templates onto gold glitter craft paper and cut out with scissors. Glue larger lightning bolt to a pair of sunglasses (angle away from face so there's space for nose). Poke a hole at top center of each smaller lightning bolt with a safety pin and insert earring hooks (available at craft stores). Cut an oval from white felt, hot-glue stuffing on top, then secure to shirt with hot glue.

Struck By Lightning: To make jagged holes in an old dress shirt, pinch and twist small sections of the fabric and cut with scissors. Color around edges with charcoal drawing sticks (available at craft stores); spray with hairspray to prevent smudging. Tie a Windsor knot in a necktie (so it is adjustable). Run 2 pieces of 12-gauge wire through back of tie; tape in place with black duct tape, then adjust and bend as desired. Open an old umbrella and cut holes and slashes with scissors.
