As I mentioned , my husband and I are pretty laid back about germs. Still, when a friend and her 2-year-old wanted to meet Emmett this weekend, we said no.
Ben, the super-sweet, lovable 2-year-old in question, caught croup during a play date a few days ago. Another friend's 5-year-old has had croup a bunch of times, so I know it's not a serious sickness——but I also know it's really contagious, and that I don't want my 6-week-old baby exposed to anything that might make it hard for him to breathe.
Obviously Emmett's going to get colds. He'll probably get croup and chicken pox and he'll eventually get the flu. Thanks to modern medicine he'll be miserable for a little while and then he'll get better. Still, I'd like to delay that misery for as long as possible!
Am I being silly? Should I let him hang around sick kids to help strengthen his immune system? (It's not like Ben had the measles, after all!) Or is it okay to ask friends with sick kids to keep their distance for a few months?
