Ah, Reddit. Where else is it socially acceptable to ask someone who's posted a jaw-dropping before-and-after photo how their weight loss has affected their sex life...and actually get a refreshingly honest answer?
Redditor shared two photos of himself and his wife—one of the couple on their honeymoon several years ago, and one current photo in which the pair is collectively 315 pounds lighter.
Three hours after apparition88 posted the photos, another Redditor commented, "Man, I wonder what kind of boost a couple's gets when they lose weight like this. Shit must be 100x better." And then...apparition88 actually weighed in.
"Sex was terrible before," he wrote. "We would try. (We are on our honeymoon in the first photo). It is more then [sic] night and day, it's like we are relearning our bodies over (I have never been a healthy weight)."
Other Redditors chimed in about how their own weight-loss experiences have impacted their sex lives. "Between my wife and I we lost 90lbs recently," one wrote. "It certainly changes things. Lots more energy to expend, and much less windedness after a longer period of time."
Another wrote: "I can 100% relate to this myself as when I was 60lbs heavier I had no sex drive, and no energy. Once I started keeping track and watching my intake, libido levels jumped through the roof."
As women’s health specialist Jennifer Wider, M.D., has told WomensHealthMag.com in the past, carrying extra pounds can . Certain medical conditions linked to obesity, such as diabetes and high cholesterol, can also impact your libido.
Of course, plays into this effect, too. “The brain-body connection plays an integral role in a person’s sexual desire and ability to perform," says Wider. "If you have negative thoughts about your body, it can translate directly into the bedroom." But there is some major good news: Losing weight can help, as this couple seems to have experienced first-hand.
Apparition88 put it best: "I would not say it's 20x better but let's just say it's hard to divide by zero..."
