When Mahri Smith, an 18-year-old from Ottawa, went out on the town, a group of girlfriends in tow, she had no idea that she'd be adding one special member to her crew.
Smith and her posse were in the bathroom snapping a few photos — as teenagers do — when an older woman, also in the bathroom, offered to take their group picture. Smith struck up a conversation with the woman after she complimented the girls' outfits. She was "like a teenager talking to us," Smith told .
The woman, said Smith, told the girls that seeing them together brought up fond memories of her own best friends during the nights out of her youth. "I remember when my girlfriends and I would get dressed up and go out," she told them. "I miss that."
Smith and her friends, touched by the woman's words, decided to bring the woman's nostalgia to life. "Why miss it?" Smith told her, smiling. "We are all out right now, aren't we?"
The girls immediately started taking photographs with their new friend, drawing her into their inner circle. Photographs don't lie — looks like everyone had a blast. After the photo op, the woman, who was at the casino with her husband, left the girls — Smith never learned her name.
She took to Twitter, where she posted the photos of her new friend. The Internet was just as touched by the experience as Smith was — her original has over 74,000 retweets and nearly 260,000 likes.
"The pictures made me smile," Smith told , commenting on the widespread attention she's received. "It was really nice. She just seemed like the nicest lady."
