Chances are you've seen this too-cute-for-words time-lapse video circulating the web. But now its starring actress can get a proper credit. The impossibly fluffy polar bear cub just received her name: Nora!
Now that she's almost three months old, the hosted a public vote to pick the name. Choices included Kaya, meaning "little but wise," and Sakari, meaning "sweet," but the combination of dad Nanuq and mom Aurora's names won out.
As a newborn, Nora weighed just one pound. Her mother took care of her for the first week, but as Aurora started taking more breaks (what mom doesn't need a rest?), zoo staff took over. Little Nora didn't open her eyes for almost five weeks but she soon grew much bigger — and even cuter!
As she gets stronger, Nora likes to scoot around on yoga mats, chew toys, and (of course) eat. She now weighs 18 pounds, just a fraction of her expected adult weight of 550 pounds.
The cub is only one of two born in captivity this past year, and her birth is part of a survival plan to help the endangered species. Here's hoping for more polar bear babies — and cute videos!
