This Is What Miss Trunchbull From Matilda Looks Like Now

Guys, she's an absolute sweetheart.

We all love the film adaptation of Roald Dahl's book Matilda, and it's pretty hard not to adore the protagonist of the story, six-and-a-half-year-old Matilda (played by Mara Wilson in the film). There is one character, however, who isn't quite as lovable: the *ahem* evil Miss Trunchbull, played by Pam Ferris.

Miss Trunchbull is the tyrannical principal of the elementary school Matilda attends, and she constantly bullies the children. In the book, Dahl describes Trunchbull as looking, "more like an eccentric and rather bloodthirsty follower of the stag-hounds than the headmistress of a nice school for children."

The frumpy, red-faced principal makes quite the statement — from here severe bun to the shoulder pads of her hunter-green blazer.

Yikes. You definitely wouldn't want to get on her bad side (although it's almost impossible not to).

Since the film's release in 1996, however, the now 68-years-old Ferris looks totally different. While we realize that she was dressed up in costume for the movie, it's still hard to believe it's the same woman. In fact, she's played some major roles in a few movies since Matilda — and she's almost unrecognizable.

Since Matilda she's starred as Ma Larkin in The Darling Buds of May, as Laura Thyme in Rosemary & Thyme and as Sister Evangelina in Call the Midwife. She's also made appearances in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Rave, Pollyana, Children of Men, the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' Little Dorri and Gavin and Stacey.
