1. Our food, no matter where it's from, is the best.
We have such a wide variety of delicious cuisine, and we get to eat them for FREE at abuela's house rather than pay 50 bucks at a fancy Brazilian steakhouse.
2. We make friends a lot easier.
Studies show that Latinos are the friendliest people in the world, and we're more likely to befriend people outside of our ethnicity than other groups. Every one wants to be our best friend.
3. Being bilingual makes us smarter.
Even if you're not fluent, chances are you know at least some Spanish or Portuguese, and that has a profound effect on your brain. It improves cognitive skills and can prevent dementia at old age.
4. We love our bodies.
Research shows Latinas who identify closely with their heritage are less likely to be affected by the media's unrealistic portrayals of beauty. We embrace our natural belleza.
5. We live longer.
Despite the fact that 80 percent of our food is most likely deep-fried (OK I just made that up, but it's probably true), we are less likely to develop heart disease and tend to live longer than non-Hispanic whites.
6. We are generally happier.
Latinas eat home-cooked meals more than other groups (mami taught us well), which is better for our happiness. That's right, studies show that cooking at home actually makes you happier, probably because you're not wasting money on crappy food.
7. We are killing it in our careers.
We are opening businesses at nearly six times higher than any other group. Not to mention, we are generally happier at work.
8. We get to visit other countries all the time.
How amazing is it to get the opportunity to spend your summers with your family in Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc. without having to pay for a fancy resort? Most of us still have family back home, which means we have a spot to take a quick vacation whenever we need. And we get to experience the real country.
9. Our music is diverse and also the best.
OK maybe I'm a bit biased, but we've got samba, salsa, mariachi, banda, bachata, cumbia—the list goes on. You know your iPod is probably full of both Beyoncé and Aventura, and your family parties are better than ladies night in Miami.
10. We age slower.
Our skin is more likely to be oily and more resistant to sun damage, meaning we're less likely to develop wrinkles at a young age. We'll be sexy forever.
11. We're the largest ethnic minority in the United States.
And we are the second fastest growing population, meaning our input and knowledge is becoming increasingly important in everything from politics to media.
12. Latin Americans have our very own unofficial language: Spanglish.
And it's awesome, because who doesn't love having the ability to juggle multiple languages at once?
13. We've got a remedy for everything.
Even if some of them are completely ridiculous, you probably have one of your grandma's remedios for a scrape, dull hair, or a pimple stored in your brain forever, and that's important knowledge to have.
14. We have awesome role models.
Rita Moreno, Selena, Jennifer Lopez, Sonia Sotomayor—all of these women and more paved the way for Latinas, putting us on the map and showing just how successful we can be.
15. More brands are catering to us.
Companies are basically fascinated by us and our purchasing power, so they're doing everything they can to market products specifically for Latinos.
16. We're incredibly proud.
Let's be honest, we wouldn't want to be anything else even if it was possible. From the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Nueva York to Cinco de Mayo, Carnaval and all the other fesitivities around the world, we take so much passion and pride in who we are. That's loyalty that cannot be topped. ¡Que orgullo! ("orgulho," for my Brasileiras out there!).
