A little old lady in Brazil got quite the surprise recently when she discovered that the religious figurine that she had been praying to everyday was, in fact, a character from Lord of the Rings named Lord Elrond.
Freelance makeup artist Gabriela Brandão explained the mixup in a Facebook post last Friday, saying that her daughter's great-grandmother had been praying to it thinking it was St. Anthony, who is ironically the patron saint of lost things.
You can certainly understand how she would have made that mistake. For reference, here is a St. Anthony figurine. Apart from the baby, you can hardly tell the difference!
Gabriela looked it up on eBay and confirmed that the figurine was, indeed, Elrond, when she found an identical toy that was clearly labeled.
Grandmama, however, was a little harder to convince.
"We tried to explain right away but she didn't understand at first," Brandão . "The next day we explained again and she understood and we got her a new figure of Saint Anthony."
It's a pretty hilarious story and in all honesty we think God can always hear your prayers, even if they are directed to a mighty elf ruler in a fantasy land.
