For the past several months, campaign signs touting political candidates have been covering lawns across America—but Amanda Blanc, a graphic designer and mother from Sacramento, California, had a different message she wanted to spread during election season.
Inspired by a conversation on a local Facebook group, Amanda decided to put her own spin on Donald Trump's campaign slogan by making eye-catching yard signs printed with the slogan "Make America Kind Again."
Amanda began back in October, estimating she'd need between 15 to 20 signs to fill orders. "My thought was, 'If I order 100, I'll get stuck with 80 and I don't need that pile in my living room,'" she told . "But my husband encouraged me to go ahead with it, so we ordered 100 on a hope and we sold out in less than 48 hours."
The sentiment has clearly struck a chord, as Amanda's business has been booming ever since. While she expected her sales to slow down after the election, Amanda says that orders have been pouring in since November 8. She's even started selling other items featuring the slogan, including tumblers, stickers, and tote bags.
"[Sales] have taken off since election day, and I think it's because there is a general desire for the movement," she told . "So many people have reached out to me thanking me for this, and I think it's because it's something that was sort of missing during the campaign season."
Still, Amanda insists her merchandise is not meant to be a political statement, but rather an effort to promote unity and ensure that her young children know it's important to be kind to one another.
"The biggest thing is for my kids to see kindness," she added. "I have really young kids and I don't want them to grow up in this world where everyone is so angry to each other. Between friends and family groups, the politics are driving people apart because they're holding onto politics rather than family values...we need to be kind and respect one another." We couldn't agree more!
