Fans of Bridget Jones's Diary know that Bridget weighs herself on the daily, and sure — that's a reality for plenty of women (including Kim Kardashian). But while a weight-obsessed protagonist is perhaps realistic in 2016, it doesn't send the healthiest message about body positivity. After all, Bridget Jones looks fabulous at any size — which is why it's great to hear that she's finally comfortable with her weight.
says that while she anticipated putting on pounds for , the film's director Sharon Maguire wanted Bridget to have achieved her "ideal weight." And take note: said is a U.S. size 8–10.
"Sharon was hoping we could show that Bridget had achieved her ideal weight, but at the same time it didn't mean her life was perfect," Renée , adding that she actually wanted Bridget to put on a few pounds. "I wasn't sure about that one though because we all have something we think is wrong, that needs fi, that in our own minds represents the ideal that we are meant to obtain. And I like the idea that that stays with us throughout our lives."
