It's not every day that a 20-year-old takes the time to express his heartfelt appreciation for the woman who gave him life.
When Jarrett Hoyt decided to surprise his mother with a song, he had no idea what a widespread impact it would have. What started as a way for the audio engineering student to right past wrongs ended up striking a chord with people all over the country.
Hoyt had written the song but not practiced it when his mom, Karen, arrived home earlier than expected. He decided to go ahead and perform it for her, capturing the emotional moment on camera.
The resulting video, which Hoyt posted on Facebook, has garnered more than 130,000 views. Some commenters say the sweet serenade brought them to tears, while others were driven to action. "I've had people telling me that they're calling their mother for the first time in 30 years," Hoyt told TWC News Buffalo."It's absolutely life-changing because it gives me a voice."
Mom Karen said she was caught off guard by the whole thing; it wasn't until a few words in that she realized the tune was for her. "Raising kids is hard and knowing that he really appreciates the effort that you put in was just more than — there's no words to say. He put it all in the song," she said.
