In the midst of enduring every parent's worst nightmare, Amber Shoemake shared something incredibly special.
After being hospitalized with a rare amoebic infection for several weeks, her 6-year-old son Leland ultimately lost his fight with the illness. And when Amber returned home to choose an outfit for his burial, she found a note written by Leland on her coffee table, .
"We have no idea when he wrote it but you can tell he was always a special child," Amber wrote in a tribute on the Facebook page.
Leland was in the intensive care unit at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston where he was admitted two weeks ago after being sick for nearly a month. The family has raised over $8,000 in a to cover medical expenses. At this time, it is unclear how the young boy contracted the infection.
