After Toddler Who Loved Trucks Dies from Rare Disease, Community Did Something AMAZING for His Funeral

His family never expected this tremendous act of kindness.

Elijah Steffen was just three years old when he passed away after fighting a rare disease for most of his young life. After his tragic death, his community came together at his funeral and organized an incredibly touching tribute.

Steffen was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis in September 2013. The rare disease targets bones and organs, and the boy suffered for most of his life because of the illness. He went through four rounds of chemotherapy treatments.

He was recovering well from his latest round of chemotherapy and was set to have a stem cell and bone marrow transplant, donated by his younger sister. But instead the tot suddenly went into septic shock after losing liver function, and sadly passed away.

Before succumbing to the illness, the Make-a-Wish Foundation made him as a special guest of Phoenix's Monster Jam truck rally, which was set to take place in just a few months. And seven hours prior to passing away, he was named Monster Jam's Fan of the Week.

Even though his dreams couldn't come true while Steffen was alive, his family was determined to go all out for his funeral, and finally bring the trucks to Steffen.

The family put out a call that anyone with a truck was invited to be a part of the young boy's funeral procession. They never expected that hundreds of trucks would join the procession, from semis to pickups, off-roaders to fire engines, vintage military jeeps and even a real life monster truck.

We know Steffen would have loved the show of support, and seeing all of those trucks gathered at once in his honor. We offer our condolences to his family.
