This week my husband and I got the bills for day camp for our kids for the summer—wow! Took-my-breath-away expensive. We knew it was coming, but didn't realize payment would come due all at once. Better step up the savings. Last night while watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey (total guilty pleasure) I actually decided to add up the contents of our change basket because desperate times call for desperate measures. We've had the basket for a few months and every couple of days throw our change in and just leave it there. I was feeling pretty good about it—$82 (yay!) with no hard labor involved—until I turned to the tv and watched one of the housewives count out $120,000 in cash to pay for furniture for her new house.
Forward to 2:43.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong in life if I'm thrilled to find $82 and she's blithely counting out thousand dollar bills. Sigh. When I got to the office today I tried to console myself by counting the change in my desk drawer—another $22. It's not $120,000, but I'll take the $104.
How much I've saved on the way to $5,000 (the amount seems almost laughable in light of the Housewives): $1,747.49
