I've noticed a lot of media outlets are talking about Twitter lately, so I figured it was worthy of a Techie Tuesday post. If you're not familiar with Twitter, it is essentially a mini-blog where you have a 140 character limit to answer the question: What are you doing? You can update it as many times as you want throughout the day via the Internet or your mobile phone. Once you are ing your heart out, you can invite family and friends to follow your status on the Twitter Web site or through their mobile phone. It's kind of a fun way to stay in touch with people, without having to email or phone them.
The concept of Twitter reminds me of the status line on Facebook. Your tweets (which is what they call the status updates) can be fun or serious and as personal or inane as you want them to be. If you choose not to post tweets, you can always follow other people on Twitter. Quite a few celebrities have gotten into Twitter (John Mayer famously played a joke by ing about an engagement ring when he was on-again with Jennifer Aniston) and I've known people who quietly follow their work crushes via Twitter.
If you didn't get a chance to see it, here is funny excerpt from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart about all the Twitter-related hubbub.
