Just two days after Luke Perry's death at age 52, his two children, Jack and Sophie, have posted on their social media accounts to give tribute to their father — and to express their surprise and agony at the shocking tragedy.
Jack, 21, who has followed his dad's footsteps into the entertainment industry and become a professional wrestler, uploaded a photo of himself alone in the ring before an adoring crowd. In the upper left corner, one can glimpse a screaming fan holding up a t-shirt, who appears to be Luke.x
"He was a lot of things to a lot of people. To me, he was always Dad," Jack wrote. "He loved supported me in everything, and inspired me to be the best that I could possibly be."
He continued, "I've learned so much from you, and my heart is broken thinking about everything you won’t be here for. I’ll miss you every day that I walk this earth." The second photo in his post, when scrolled right, depicts a curly-haired baby Jack, with his smiling pop.
Earlier, Jack's younger sister Sophie, 18, uploaded her own emotional photo and caption. In hers, she thanked people for all the kind wishes she has received. "I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I," she wrote.
"I'm not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it's something you aren't ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it's all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love," she continued. Sophie's photo shows she and her dad, smiling together in front of some horses.
Last year, Sophie also posted a sweet pic of Luke sending her off at her prom. He kisses her cheek in the image, which she captioned with a note that her dress was inspired by Frenchie in Grease.
In the statement announcing Luke's passing, his representative he "was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."
