When Alan Martin, a pastor from North Carolina, set out to lose 10 pounds from his 222-pound frame, he took an unusual approach to his diet.
Instead of cutting out carbs, he managed to lose weight over the past eight weeks while eating almost exclusively at Olive Garden using his .
Unlimited bowls of cheesy carbs might not sound diet food to most people, but Martin told The Wall Street Journal that his Olive Garden diet was actually healthier than the barbecue sandwiches and late-night hamburgers his diet usually consists of.
"I'm a Southerner," Martin ."We don't eat normal."
While Martin managed to only lose five pounds of his 10-pound goal, he says following these few tricks helped him shed the weight.
To cut more calories, he turned away free glasses of sweet tea, tried to fill up on salad and only ate the pasta toppings on many dishes. He also limited himself to one breadstick per meal.
"Those can really add up," Martin said.
